Troubleshooting Facebook Ad Campaigns

Setting up an ad campaign for the first time on Facebook is exciting, and delving into this stage of digital marketing can open up a whole new world of possibilities for your business or brand!

But it’s easy to be hasty while setting up a new campaign, which can lead to unintentional errors.

That’s why this week we’re talking about common mistakes that are made when setting up Facebook campaigns, so that you can make your first one successful from the start! Keep reading.

What is a Facebook Ad Campaign?

According to Facebook, a campaign is a series of ad sets and ads that aim to accomplish a single objective, like generating leads or increasing the number of app installs. Campaigns contain one or more ad sets. Ad sets contain one or more ads. At the campaign level, you'll choose an ad objective to define your goals.

What are some errors that could occur during campaign setup?

If you find yourself running into problems during your ad campaign setup, there’s a good chance they can be resolved quickly and easily!

Here are some potential reasons why you’re having trouble:

You forgot to add a credit card.

It’s super common to forget this simple step! If you set up your ad account and are ready to publish your campaign, but receive a message that won’t let you proceed, you may have forgotten to attach your credit card. Troubleshoot by checking the credit card information section of your ads manager.

Key components got reset during duplication.

Sometimes when we attempt to duplicate an ad, key sections from creative like the CTA, landing page, or tracking might reset. Double check to make sure they haven’t reset if you run into trouble!

You forgot to reset your schedule structure.

When duplicating campaigns that have a schedule, by default, Facebook won’t keep the previously set schedule structure. Make sure to set this once again when duplicating campaigns.

Facebook Ad Campaign Quick Tips

Here are a few things to be aware of when making an ad campaign for the first time:

  1. Be aware that after publishing a campaign with a lifetime budget, you won’t be able to go back and change it into a daily budget, and vice-versa. You can only change a lifetime budget by taking the following steps:

    - Duplicate your campaign.
    - Change the budget into daily or lifetime.
    - Re-publish the campaign.
  2. Note that if you use Advantage & Creative automation, you are only allowed to create 1 ad/ad set, and the creative can only contain a single image or video.

Conclusion

Be aware of the performance of your Facebook ad campaigns, and if they’re not performing as expected take some time to troubleshoot with some of the above steps.
